Education for development foundation

Mission

The Education for Development Foundation aims to contribute to the sustainable development of developing countries. Our belief is that educating people, who would otherwise not have been able to do so, is the best way to contribute to sustainable development in developing countries. We want children and young adults to have the opportunity to contribute to the further development of their country. We want to achieve this by working closely together with local foundations to identify and financially support motivated students, who, due to a lack of financial means, would not be able to afford a university or (higher) vocational education.

 In addition, to ensure that these students can successfully be integrated in the labor market, we will engage with various local business communities.

Activities

  1. We offer financial support to youth in developing countries who wish to pursue a scientific or (higher) vocational education, provided that it can lead to economic independence;
  2. We offer financial support those youth who cannot or can only partially pay the costs of their education;
  3. The financial support is a gift and is a contribution to the costs of study, and directly related expenses ;
  4. In addition to the financial support, the beneficiaries will receive coaching from the Foundation’s board for the duration of their education. The coaching program aims to increase the success rate of the Foundation’s activities.

The following activities are not eligible for funding from the Foundation:

  1. Studies and/or projects outside of the beneficiary’s country of residence
  2. PhD research
  3. Second and postgraduate studies

Way of Working

The board meets quarterly. During board meetings the strategic plan, among other things, is evaluated and updated as necessary. In addition, scholarship applications from local foundations are assessed and using predefined allocation criteria, scholarships are granted. The treasurer makes the payments to the selected beneficiaries. The treasurer is also responsible for drawing up the annual financial statement, which is published here.

In the quarterly meetings, the board thoroughly discusses the study progress of each beneficiary. When the progress is not in line with the expectations, the board can cease the funding of the beneficiary immediately.
